The Summer English Program began on Tuesday, July 1, with the Opening Ceremony. Principal Lin addressed the San Sin students and teachers. He thanked the American teachers for their participation in the program, and said that it provided a wonderful opportunity for the San Sin students to improve their English skills. Dr. O'Kon stated that it is an honor for the American teachers to be able to participate in this program.
The American teachers began their English instruction immediately following the Opening Ceremony. Each teacher provided a personal introduction first.
The unit theme for Week One was: Entertain Us, Please! Their English teaching centered around the theme of entertainment, including movies, music, and museums. The teachers quickly learned about the level of English comprehension and word usage by their students, whose English skills are at many different levels!
Each teacher was introduced, and each one spoke briefly to the students. The teaching assistants Lily, Mita, Blair, Alex, and Jingo were also introduced. Jingo and Alex translated the comments for the audience!
